The structuralist approach is present in all of the social sciences, but has its roots from psychology, most notably from Gestalt psychology. The structuralist approach accentuated the primacy of the whole and structures in perception, and posited that in our minds, different basic phenomena become intertwined to form new, qualitatively different structures which function according to their own rules and laws.
