Inferential statistics are one of the two main categories of statistical procedures. While descriptive statistics are concerned with the description of various data from populations, we use inferential statistics to try to make predictions from the observation of a sample, which can be generalized to a population. The sample must represent the population in order for us to be able to generalize our inferences.
