The Ames window is an illusion in which a trapezoid window frame is rotated, yet seems to the observer as if it is being turned back and forth. This can be explained by the presence of visual depth cues associated with similar shapes in real life. The illusion attributed to the American scientist Adelbert Ames Jr.
